MANCHESTER - UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is seriously ill in hospital after collapsing in Canada, UFC president Dana White said Saturday.

"He's in rough shape, he's in really bad shape," White said Saturday after UFC 105.

"He is not well and he is not getting any better. . . . He's very, very sick and he's going to be out for a while. He's got a lot of problems."

Citing mononucleosis, the 32-year-old Lesnar was forced to postpone a title fight against Shane Carwin scheduled for UFC 106 on Nov. 21 in Las Vegas. The fight was pushed back to UFC 108 on Jan. 2, but that too has been postponed.

"He's got mono and he's got something else wrong with him. I know what's wrong with him, he just doesn't want me talking about it," White said.

"He doesn't have cancer or AIDS or anything like this, (but) he's got some problems, man."

White said Lesnar was currently in a hospital in North Dakota. The six-foot-three, 265-pounder owns property in Canada, White added.

"He dropped up there and had to go to hospital," White said.

He said Lesnar may have to go to the Mayo Clinic or another top hospital "to figure out what's wrong with this guy."

"He's not going to be getting well any time soon," White said.

The UFC has other concerns with fighters. White said the newly announced UFC 108 main event between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cain Velasquez is off because Nogueira has a serious staph infection.

"(It's) bad, to the point now that it's in his bloodstream," White said. "He's probably going to have to be hospitalized and intravenously given antibiotics."

Carwin is also out after undergoing knee surgery.

"It's crazy," White said of the injuries and illness

Sounds pretty serious now..I hope he comes back in febuary or march or something best fighter in the ufc

Dunno cant be good though if they are saying he wont be better any time soon must be something pretty serious. Could be a heart related issue many wreslters and fighters have had problems with their hearts.

Man.. bad news. Hopefully it's not as bad as it sounds. You can't really trust news like this.. stupid rumors are far too common. But if it is real I hope he makes a quick and full recovery.

Dana White is trying to get Brock Lesnar into the world famous May Clinic and tells TMZ that Lesnar has some sort of intestinal disorder that will require "major surgery."

White described Lesnar as "very, very sick" and that he had collapsed in Canada a week ago after going there to rest up after being diagnosed with mono.

White also added the following: "There's a possibility Lesnar will never fight again."

Brock Lesnar was released from hospital in Bismarck North Dakota and will recover from a bacterial infection at his home.

Lesnar's coach Greg Nelson, head instructor at the Minnesota Mixed Martial Arts Academy told the Canadian Press that Lesnar's prognosis is looking more positive at this point.

"He's at home now, much better than he was," Nelson explained to CP on Wednesday. "He was in a lot of pain, obviously dealing with a lot of different medicines dealing not only the pain but also for the infection.

"Definitely, he's feeling better. He's at home, that's where he wants to be."

Nelson also admitted that there is still a possibility, but no guarantee, that Lesnar may require surgery down the road.

"We'll see and if does, he'll obviously go to a good place," Nelson told CP, "because obviously his goal is to get back and get back in the cage."

Lesnar's friend and chiropractor Larry Novotny told the Associated Press late Thursday that Lesnar was home and would not be making any decisions about his career until his health improved.

Novotny's claim was backed up by UFC president Dana White on his twitter account.

"Leaving Bismarck, N.D., right now. Brock had minor surgery and is feeling better," White wrote. "Not 100 per cent sure he is out of the woods but feeling better."

While Lesnar and the UFC have not commented on the specifics of his infection or surgery, WCCO-TV in Minneapolis is reporting that Lesnar had a severe case of diverticulitis, which is a common digestive disease that causes small pouches to form in the digestive system.

Surgery for the condition could become necessary when there is concern that the infection could spread and cause a potentially fatal inflammation.

Lesnar originally was supposed to fight Shane Carwin on November 21 for the title, but that fight was cancelled at the time because Lesnar had mono. The UFC were planning on staging the fight at UFC 108 in January, but with Lesnar's illness the fight has obviously been cancelled.

White told the Associated Press on Monday that Lesnar wanted to thank his fans for their support.
